A couple of years ago, my mum posted me various bits of printouts of rhythm strips from an ECG she had at home with a paramedic. She was actually having a heart attack at the time but asked to keep them as she thought they looked like graphic scores and that I could make music from them. It took me 2 years to figure out how to use them but she did get to hear about the idea before she died and was rather excited about it!

I posted about my idea for this piece on social media a few months ago and the response was amazing. Each person that responded was sent one of three graphic scores, devised from the ECG printouts, corresponding to one of the three output signals. Musicians were given some basic parameters but were largely free to interpret as they wished.

Thank you so much to everyone who contribute. Mum would have found this all highly amusing!
